Get to know Megan - our Founder and Head of Support Coordination

I never thought this would be my pathway in life, but how things change!

I was thrown into the deep end with navigating the disability world. From learning how to be a parent to a child with a complex, neurological disability AND understanding how to navigate the disability support services (which we’re very fortunate to have here in Australia!), there was a lot to get my head around.

As I learnt more about neurological disabilities and the support services available to us (firstly, the state-based disability services and now the NDIS), my passion for helping others truly kicked in, and I found myself enrolling into a course on how to become a Support Coordinator.

Flash forward a few years, whilst working as an Independent Support Coordinator, I was having families coming to me, absolutely lost and confused by the scheme. They weren’t sure what all the acronyms meant, what the proper processes,  what was expected of them and how to get the level of funding their loved one needed to kick some NDIS goals and connect and maintain connection with mainstream supports and community services.

Unfortunately, not everyone is funded for Support Coordination. Or if they were, it would often only be funded for one plan (which is usually around one year long). After the year was finished, they’d be expected to navigate the scheme on their own. I didn’t find this fair at all, because if their Support Coordinator didn’t teach them how to do things for themselves, they wouldn’t know any more than they did before. Unfortunately, this does happen!

It was time to put on my thinking cap. How could I help families (irrespective of whether they had SC funded or not) to understand the scheme and get great outcomes against their NDIS goals? Head down and bum up I team up with Kirsten (an educator herself) developing the other domain of our business – the NDIS Education side of Achievable.

Here at Achievable, we are on a mission to educate and empower families, to make informed decisions for themselves. We do this through online course, templates and resources to help families understand NDIS processes, terminology and concepts AND collect the evidence the NDIS needs to know.

2022 has been a big year of development, and we’re expecting 2023 to be even bigger! We have a range of helpful online courses and resources now available, and many others in the works.

We couldn’t be more excited to share our resources and courses with families. Thanks for following along our journey!
